What Do You Need To Prepare Your Child For Kindergarten?
How prepared is my child for kindergarten Malaysia? How can I assist them in preparing? Every preschool instructor is questioning on these two topics as kindergarten registration approaches.
Teachers in kindergarten are experts at bringing together kids with various backgrounds and skill levels. With a strong foundation and knowledge base, kids will adjust to kindergarten much more easily. While students don’t need to be aware of everything, these 10 Crucial Things will enable them to go on to the next phase of their education with ease.
The beginning of kindergarten is such a crucial and joyful time! Naturally, parents want their kids to enjoy their first day of school. In kindergarten, there is a lot to learn, including how to ride the bus, make friends, get along in a class of 20–25 students, go to lunch, music class, and art class, as well as how to find the appropriate seat and line up in the hallway. What factors determine whether a child is prepared for kindergarten?
Teachers don’t expect students to know everything when they start school, but if a student has a strong foundation, the first few weeks will go much more smoothly. Kindergarten-age students ought to be capable of:
1. State needs and wants in words
In kindergarten, children who say “Hello” to one another, ask their teachers for what they need, bargain well with peers, and speak out for themselves will do well socially.
2. Inscription of Names
The youngsters should write their first names from left to right, capitalising the initial letter and using lowercase letters for the remainder. But at the very least, students must be able to write their own name in a way that the teacher can recognise.
3. Touch a Book
Not read it, just find the cover, hold it in the right hand, turn the pages, and find the text. Reading to your child each day is the only surefire approach to impart this ability. Have books in the car and every room. Assure your child that you are reading your own books as well. Continue to read! Children who are prepared to start kindergarten on a daily basis are more prepared because they are accustomed to listening to stories, following along, and having it modelled for them.
4. Put on their clothes
Kindergartners must be able to button their own pants, put on their own shoes, and put their own coats on. Don’t worry if your child hasn’t mastered tying shoes at the start of the year. Continue to train him, but make sure he wears velcro shoes (or something similar) that he can fasten himself to school.
5. Use discretion when using the restroom
It’s unlikely that kindergarten teachers will be permitted to accompany their pupils to the restroom. No overalls or onesies allowed! The students must be able to handle their own pants, wipe themselves down, and wash their hands. starting at the age of four!
6.Use crayons, glue, and scissors.
In kindergarten, there is a lot of colouring, cutting, and pasting. A big gold star is awarded to the students who already know how to use their school materials at the start of the year. If you need some tips on how to use scissors, I really like this set of images that illustrates the “correct” and “incorrect” ways to do it.
7. List a few letters and their sounds.
Children who are beginning kindergarten should be familiar with many of the letters, starting with the letters in their names. Although it’s not necessary, it’s beneficial if they are aware of how each letter sounds.
8. Count to ten.
Children in kindergarten should be able to count by heart (1-2-3-4…) up to ten and also be able to count a group of objects (4 crackers) accurately.
9. Rhyme
According to research, kids who have strong phonological awareness skills—rhyming is one of them!—tend to be better readers as they grow older. Play word games with your child using rhymes. Sing rhyming tunes and nursery rhymes. Read rhyme-containing novels.
10. Be Abandoned by Their Parents
Separation anxiety is highly prevalent in young school-age children. Kindergartners who are content and at ease in their learning environment are off to a terrific start. For additional details on separation anxiety, read this article.
