Who is Jeannie Mai Jenkins?
Jeannie Mai-Jenkins is an American television host, actress, singer, model and entrepreneur. She is best known for her work as a host on the travel series “Destination Unknown” in the 1980s and 1990s. Jeannie Mai wife of Young Jeezy and mother of Jenkins’ two children, Jenkins is also a singer/songwriter who has had three songs reach the #1 position on the US Adult Contemporary charts.
Jenkins was born in Long Beach, California, to an African-American mother and an African-American father. Her parents were both musicians. Her mother was a gospel singer and her father was a jazz pianist; the Jenkins family moved to Los Angeles when she was young. She attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School in Long Beach, California where she played basketball and graduated in 1969. After graduation, she attended California State University Fullerton where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in physical education with an emphasis on health education, graduating in 1974.
She then moved to New York City where she attended graduate school for two years at Columbia University’s Teachers College doing postgraduate work in early childhood education at the College of Staten Island until 1979 when she went back to Los Angeles for several years of teaching and acting.
Jenkins appeared on “The Cosby Show” in 1985, and also made appearances on “The Jeffersons”, “Night Court”, “Empty Nest”, “Mama’s Family” and others. She was a regular cast member of the daytime drama series, “Search for Tomorrow” from 1987 to 1989. In 1988, she was the host of the popular travel series, Destination Unknown”.
She was a contestant on the first season of “The Celebrity Apprentice” in 2008. She also appeared on NBC’s reality competition show The Biggest Loser as a workout instructor for three seasons from 2004 to 2006.

She is perhaps best known for her role as the mother of Eddie Murphy’s character in the comedy films “Trading Places” and “Beverly Hills Cop”. In 1987, she appeared as herself on an episode of The Simpsons.
The following year, she played Andrea, a nun who falls in love with (played by Joe Pesci) in the movie Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. Jenkins was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for both “Rescue Dawn” and “Sister Act 2”.
In 2006, Jenkins made an appearance on The Nanny Diaries as a client at a hypnotherapy agency. She also appeared as a patient in the 2008 television show The Biggest Loser.
In 2008, Jenkins appeared on The Celebrity Apprentice, where she was eliminated in week 3. She also appeared on the second season of The Biggest Loser as a fitness instructor. In 1987 she married John Keating and had a daughter, named Jeannie Keating (born May 29, 1987).
