The vape market is expected to be valued close to $50 billion by 2025. Since smoking cigarettes is becoming frowned upon in social settings, more and more people are switching to e-cigarettes.

It’s hardly shocking that this trend coincides with the continuous fall of tobacco cigarette use. In a new study funded by Cancer Research UK, researchers found that monthly cigarette consumption dropped by nearly a quarter between 2011 and 2018. This equates to roughly 118 million fewer cigarettes being smoked each month. Report author Dr. Emma Beard stated, “The very recent trends in quitting rates, since 2013, support the idea that e-cigarettes may be contributing to a decline in the overall number of people smoking by helping smokers quit, and there is no evidence at all that they are undermining progress in getting smoking rates down in young people.”

Joseph Robinson submitted a patent application for a device in 1927 that could be used to inhale “medicinal substances,” essentially the forerunner to the modern electronic cigarette. There was no additional development of this early prototype, although it served as the basis for subsequent iterations. Tobacco and nicotine use were the subject of the first such application, submitted in 1963 by Herbert Gilbert.

The first commercial e-cigarette was developed in 2003 by a Chinese man named Hon Lik who sought to satisfy his nicotine cravings in a safer way. It was a plastic case containing an atomizer, battery, and nicotine cartridge.

In this way, a market worth $50 billion got its start.

Part of the appeal of electronic cigarettes is that they are thought to be safer than regular cigarettes. Two-thirds of e-cigarette users who attempted to quit smoking were successful, according to a research published in 2015 by the NHS. Public Health England then released a research stating that e-cigarettes are 95% safer than cigarettes and can help people kick the habit.

While everyone agrees that vaping isn’t fully safe, they also agree that it’s far less harmful to your health than cigarettes.

Tobacco vapour includes significantly fewer toxins, making it a safer alternative. The tank, which stores the e-liquid, the battery, and the vape coils make up the entirety of the device.

Within a month of switching to vaping, former smokers also report decreased blood pressure and enhanced taste and fragrance.

While there is no denying that vaping has helped save thousands of individuals from a much more harmful addiction to cigarettes and tobacco, there is no denying that it still has some degree of harmful features to it. That’s something to be grateful for.
