Continuing training for security guards
We will speak here exclusively of continuous training
We will speak here exclusively of continuous training (which is aimed at adults already integrated into the job market or already qualified), and not of initial training (CAP, Bac Pro, Professional Certificate, etc.) intended for students.
The following training courses can however be qualified as “initial” when one wishes to differentiate the basic training and its retraining, the retraining being a Maintenance of Acquired and Competences (MAC) which makes it possible to refresh one’s knowledge and which is compulsory.
The cost of training is largely negotiable with training organizations depending on the mode of financing. You can request a discount if you cannot have all or part of your training financed. In this article, we indicate the basic rates, for information only.
Security guard training
Having trained as a security guard company and obtained the diploma almost guarantees access to a job, especially in large cities. The private security sector is hiring massively, and the needs in France are not diminishing, due to insecurity and the terrorist threat. In addition, the outlook is good, with the organization of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in particular, which will require the hiring of tens of thousands of additional security guards.
Continuing training courses for security guards are rather short and accessible, whether from a financial or academic point of view. They therefore constitute a safe and simple way to employment. In addition, they make it possible to professionalize a sector that still needs to be solidified.
The CQP APS
Careers : job as a security guard
Duration : 175 hours in 25 days (5 weeks) + a 7 hour exam
Cost : €1500 excl. VAT to €1800 excl. VAT (indicative price range, price negotiable depending on the financing method)
The CQP APS (Professional Qualification Certificate for Prevention and Security Agent) allows you to practice the profession of security agent. A Prevention and Security Officer is versatile and can carry out several types of missions:
Ensure the reception and verification of the identity of visitors

Prerequisites:
This training is intended for adults, with no criminal record, knowing how to read and write in French. To enter training, you will need prior authorization issued by the CNAPS(National Council for Private Security Activities). The CNAPS is an organization under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior, which aims to oversee private security activities and contribute to the moralization of the sector.
In practice, the training center will provide you with a pre-registration certificate. With this, you can request prior authorization from the CNAPS, which will examine your request. The CNAPS will then carry out an administrative investigation by consulting the B2 (bulletin N°2 of the criminal record), and the Taj files (Processing of criminal records) and FPR (File of Wanted Persons).
If your record is empty, the CNAPS will grant you prior authorization, and you can enter training, by providing your center with the prior authorization number issued by the CNAPS.
Program :
The CQP APS lasts 175 hours and includes the following 14 modules (the organization of the content may vary very slightly depending on the training organization, but the content is regulatory and therefore identical from one center to another):

Review :
The CQP APS exam lasts 7 hours and consists of two parts:
A theoretical test consisting of a MCQ with 40 questions: to validate the theoretical test, you must obtain a score of at least 12/20.
A practical test consisting of a scenario in front of a jury of professionals: the subject of the scenario is drawn by lot by the candidate. Here is a scoring grid associated with an example of a scenario: the case of a flagrante delicto of shoplifting .
The CQP ASC
Openings : profession of canine security guard (also called ” dog handler “)
Duration : total of 490 hours (common core of 31 hours + specific “surveillance and guarding” module of 134 hours + specific “dog dog” module of 315 hours) + evaluation
Cost : €3000 excl. VAT to €3200 excl. VAT (indicative price range, price negotiable depending on the mode of financing)
Dog handler training
The CQP ASC (Certificate of Professional Qualification of Cynophile Security Agent) allows you to become a canine security agent and to work in tandem with your dog.
This is the ideal job for a person wishing to work in safety and passionate about dogs. The presence of the animal is particularly dissuasive for criminals. A dog handler can, for example, perform the following missions effectively:
- Monitor a business exposed to thefts and robberies
- Monitor a construction site to protect it from theft and intrusion
- Monitor a sensitive site
- Protect a place at night
- Filter at the entrance of a place (control of visitors and their vehicle)
Prerequisites:
A significant number of prerequisites must be fulfilled by the dog and by the future canine agent.
Regarding the animal, the conditions are as follows:
- He must have a European Union passport
- His vaccination must be up to date (CHLPR + TC)
- He must be part of the list of second category dogs and you must be able to present his license.
- It must belong to the list of dog breeds authorized for biting defined by the SCC ( Société Centrale Canine )
- His age must be at least 18 months when the training ends
- He must pass an entrance test
For the master, the prerequisites are as follows:
- Have a valid first aid certificate (SST, PSE1, PSE2, or PSC1)
- Have a clean criminal record
- To be of age
- Ability to read and write correctly in French
- Obtain prior authorization to enter training issued by the CNAPS
Program :
The CQP ASC is a long and rigorous training whose success rate is much lower than that of the CQP APS. Its duration is 490 hours in total since a decree of June 27, 2017 (it was only around 400 hours previously).
The teaching of the canine module is intended for holders of a CNAPS professional card, that is to say security agents who have passed the CQP APS or equivalent training.
If you are already a security guard and you have a valid CNAPS professional card, you will simply have to follow the specific 315-hour “dog handler” module (and pass the exam successfully) to become a dog handler.
